Camp Pike was renamed Camp Joseph T. Robinson in 1937 following the death of Senator Robinson. The Senator represented Arkansas from 1913 until his death in 1937.
Senator Robinson, a career Democrat, represented Arkansas 6th District in the US House of Representatives for 12 years begin in 1902.
He was elected Governor of Arkansas in 1912 and served 55 days before being the last Senator directly appointed to seat by a State Legislature. He was also the Democratic Vice-presidential candidate in 1928 as Alfred E. Smith’s running mate.
